Lost in Translation: Localization Lessons from Scaling Reddit to 35+ Languages
This session shares a variety of learnings from the journey of scaling Reddit's localization support up to 35+ languages. Key topics will be:
- Overview of our in-house l10n pipeline
- Correctly implementing an in-app language picker for both pre- and post-Android 13 (and whether or not you need one)
- Integrating on-demand resource delivery
- Ensuring consistency between app string localization and BE string localization
- RTL language support and regression testing strategies
- 1-off issues + fixes encountered with specific languages (Bengali numerals, Thai line breaks, etc.)
- Supporting pseudolocales in internal builds for localization testing
